◆スタン・ブラッケージ ヴィクトリアにて逝く！

一昨日、悲しい知らせが届きました。去る3/9に、スタン・ブラッケージは、その生涯を閉じました。

癌に侵されて今年の1月初めから、かなり容態が悪くなってはいましたが、2 月半ばに会った時にはベッドの上でもまだ旺盛な創作意欲を持って新作「チャイニーズ・シリーズ」を制作している最中でした。
こんなにも早く別れが訪れるとは思いもせず…
「エッセンシャル・ブラッケージ」の編者、Bruce McPhersonの報告によると、スタンは最後に現在の伴侶であるマリリンに向かってこう言い残したとあります。

"I've had a wonderful life. Life is great."

この、心に沁み入る言葉を抱きながら、これからもスタンの作品を見続けていきたいと思っています。11月からのスタン・ブラッケージ・フィルム・エキシビション「ブラッケージ・アイズ2003−2004」はメモリアルとなる素晴らしい催しにして、スタンの功績に報いることができればと考えています。

以下、Bruce McPhersonの報告を掲載致します。

Stan Brakhage died this afternoon, Sunday, March 8th, in Victoria, British Columbia.

He died in hospital, where he had been recovering from an infection, following a sudden turn for the worse yesterday. Marilyn Brakhage was with him. Yesterday he told her: "I've had a wonderful life. Life is great."

また、昨年公開した「LOVE　SONGS」の中の『エレメンタリー・フレーズ』『コンクレサンス』の共作者でもある、映像作家フィル・ソロモンより、各地の映像作家あてに届いたメールを掲載致します。

スタンの葬儀についてと、ボールダーでの追悼上映についてのお知らせです。

There will be a funeral service for Stan Brakhage on Friday morning in Victoria, B.C. at St. Mary's Anglican Church, in the Oak Bay area near his house - followed by a memorial gathering among friends and family.

I will try to post more specific details later today. There will also be a public memorial at the University of Colorado in Boulder on March 23, from 3:00 p.m-5:00 p.m. in FA 141, where he held his salons for so many years. We hope to show his last finished film, a photographed self-portrait, entitled "Stan's Window." Mary Beth Reed has been assembling it according to Stan's instructions. Stan had also been working on a film while lying in his bed over the past few months, something he spoke about doing for years as his dream 'retirement'project , "The Chinese Series". He was scratching with his fingernails directly onto 35mm black leader, and finished several feet of beautiful footage. He said it should end wherever he stopped.

We hope to be able to print that work and perhaps make it available in the near future as well.
